Shift Labs makes low-cost medical devices. We pair existing technologies with great design to achieve simplicity, build for low cost, and create products that carry minimal technical risk. Hospitals in developed countries are filled with expensive devices, but there's an absence of equipment in clinics around the world. There's no lack of purchasing power; there's a lack of products that are appropriately designed and appropriately priced. That's where we come in: we optimize engineering and design to make products that excel in low-resource settings. Our first product, the DripClip, improves the administration of IV fluids. In well-equipped hospitals, infusion pumps regulate fluid delivery to patients to ensure correct dosages. Most of the world lacks these pumps which cost thousands of dollars. Instead, clinicians use an error-prone process of manually counting drops and calculating flow rate. The DripClip solves this problem by precisely monitoring the rate of gravity infusion.
